Joey Monahan joined SSP in July 2025 with over 20 years of experience in the insurance industry and specializes in Employee Benefits. He has previously held positions on both the broker and the carrier side, and is excited to bring his knowledge and experience to SSP.
Joey received his degree in Business Management from Liberty University, where he was on the NCAA Division I Baseball Team and was selected All-American and 2-time All-Conference.
Joey spent the first part of his career playing professional baseball for the Chicago Cubs. He decided to pursue a career in insurance because of his passion for helping others. He is dedicated to lowering healthcare costs while improving benefit plan designs. Joey’s focus is on pharmacy, alternative funding mechanisms, wellness, and HR support.
Having first connected with SSP through his father-in-law at Pritchard & Jerden, Joey was impressed with SSP’s reputation in the industry. When asked why he accepted the role, he said, “There was no one thing, but the culture here cares about employees and clients, and I’m drawn to the ability to grow and earn ownership.”
He is dedicated to giving back to his community and helped found the Jason Cunningham Charitable Foundation for children who are hard of hearing. He has helped over 600 children receive hearing aids. He also coaches youth baseball and basketball and is an active member of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church.
Outside of work, Joey enjoys playing golf, spending time with his friends + family, staying active, cooking, and decorating for Halloween and Christmas. Joey resides in Marietta with his wife Emily, their 3 children, Mary Clare, Lydia, and Yates, and their many pets.
